GitHub CEO backs MIT open source license
The CEO of popular code-sharing site GitHub is endorsing the MIT License as a mechanism for open source software usage, citing its permissiveness and brevity. Apple's smartphone market share drops to three-year low
Apple's share of the smartphone market dropped in the second quarter to its lowest level in three years, research firm Strategy Analytics said. The share of the iPhone slipped to 13.6 percent in the quarter from 16.6 percent in the same quarter last year. The largest vendor Samsung Electronics, however, saw its share soar to over 33 percent from over 31 percent in the same period. Samsung shipped over two times the number of smartphones Apple did in the quarter, Strategy Analytics said. Read More

Samsung posts record profit, but mobile slips despite Galaxy S 4 launch
Samsung Electronics said sales and profits soared in the second quarter from a year ago, but increasing competition in smartphones hurt performance in its core mobile division. The company said it booked a net profit of 7.77 trillion won ($6.89 billion) during the April-June period, up 50 percent from a year earlier. Sales were up 21 percent to 57.5 trillion won.
