	Google to boost speed, cut data use on mobile devices Google has shown off new features that can reduce data consumption and improve Web performance on Android-powered mobile devices, drawing partly from capabilities already supported in the Chrome desktop OS. The improvements include new file compression formats for images and video, and a new commerce system that makes shopping easier on mobile devices, Google said at its I/O developer conference Wednesday. Read More Google allows Android app vendors to illegally collect user data, lawsuit alleges Several users of devices running Google's Android operating system have filed an amended version of an earlier lawsuit accusing the company of illegally collecting, and allowing others to collect, extensive amounts of mobile user data without proper notice or consent. The lawsuit, filed last week in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, is an updated version of a consolidated lawsuit from January 2012. It alleged that Google's actions had harmed the privacy, security and financial interests of the six named plaintiffs in the case. Read More Amazon gives DynamoDB a performance boost Amazon Web Services is improving the performance of its DynamoDB database service with Parallel Scan, which gives users faster access to their tables.DynamoDB is a NoSQL database service that, like Amazon's other cloud services, promises to offload administration tasks while allowing enterprises to scale easily and pay only for what they use. The service stores data on solid-state disk drives and creates replicas in three different locations to improve availability. Read More
