Court rules ReDigi MP3 resales illegal
Apple, Amazon, and other aspiring purveyors of second-hand digital goods are likely scrutinizing a federal judge's ruling that ReDigi's online marketplace for reselling legally purchased, "pre-owned" MP3s violates Capitol Records' copyrights. U.S. District Judge Richard Sullivan ultimately decided that ReDigi's platform violates the Copyright Act of 1976, because in transferring a file from one system to another, that file is technically being duplicated -- even if at the end of the process, only one version of the file exists. Open source plug-in speeds mobile app development
A plug-in intended to make it easier for mobile developers to test applications and deploy them to the cloud is available for download. The open source plug-in, called the Soasta CloudTest Plugin for Jenkins, links the Jenkins continuous integration system to the Soasta Touchtest platform for testing multi-touch, gesture-based applications on the CloudBees Java platform-as-a-service. Applications would be deployed on CloudBees. Apple iOS and Google Android application builders can take advantage of the plug-in, which purports to eliminate manual steps in the mobile app development cycle. Read More

Hybrid Memory Cube spec makes DRAM 15 times faster
Backed by 100 tech companies, the three largest memory makers announced the final specifications for three-dimensional DRAM, which is aimed at increasing performance for networking and high-performance computing markets. Micron, Samsung and Hynix are leading the technology development efforts backed by the Hybrid Memory Cube Consortium (HMC). The technology, called a Hybrid Memory Cube, will stack multiple volatile memory dies on top of a DRAM controller. Read More

Dataguise says the latest version of its data-protection product enables users to encrypt sensitive data right down to specific fields within an open source Apache Hadoop database. Three Apple patent claims reinstated -- but not one key to $1.05B Samsung suit
The USPTO has reinstated three claims in an Apple patent it had earlier said it was minded to reject -- but not the claim involved in Apple's $1.05 billion dollar lawsuit against Samsung, according to documents filed by Samsung with a Californian court on Monday. Read More
