Geeksphone starts selling Firefox OS developer phones
At long last, Spain-based Geeksphone has started selling its Firefox OS smartphones, the Keon and the Peak. Pricing for the Keon is $119; the higher-end Peak is priced at $194. At the time of writing, the Geeksphone website was suffering a high volume of traffic, though it was still possible to go through the checkout process. Read More

Microsoft expects cheaper Windows 8 PCs and tablets this fall
Smaller, less expensive Windows 8 devices based on upcoming Intel processors are in the offing for later this year, the company says. The devices will be based on "Haswell" Core processors and "Bay Trail" Atom processors, both of which are designed for longer battery life, Microsoft's outgoing CFO Peter Klein said in the company's quarterly earnings meeting. Red Hat drops JBoss, rebrands as WildFly for Java middleware
If you've ever thought that Java-related open-source middleware just wasn't exciting enough for you, good news -- Red Hat announced today that it would be jazzing up its JBoss application server software, rebranding the project as WildFly, and focusing on obtaining Java Enterprise Edition 7 certification. Red Hat's vice president of middleware engineering, Mark Little, said that the change should help broaden the scope of the company's appeal in the developer community. Read More

Malware hijacks Twitter accounts to send dangerous links
Twitter users in the Netherlands are being targeted by a piece of malware that hijacks their accounts, according to security vendor Trusteer. The software vulnerability lies on the client computers of people using Twitter and not Twitter itself. Once a computer is infected, the malware injects JavaScript into the victim's browser when they're on their Twitter account page. The malware steals the user's authentication token, which allows it to make calls to Twitter's API (application programming interface) and post tweets. Read More
