4G-capable Galaxy S 4 to be powered by Snapdragon processor
The Samsung Galaxy S 4 will be powered by a quad-core, 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, the company has confirmed -- at least those using LTE 4G radios. Non-4G models of the S4 will be powered by Samsung's own Exynos 5410 Octa processor. Read More

Salesforce.com launches new services for mobile app development
Salesforce.com is giving customers and partners access to a new set of tools and services for building mobile applications on its cloud platform. Mobile development has posed something of a dilemma for both software vendors and end-user companies, because while native applications written specially for iOS, Android and other OSes can be more powerful than ones developed in HTML5, the latter can be deployed across multiple platforms, saving time and cost. Salesforce.com is hoping to preserve customers' choice of development styles while making mobile application development faster and easier, said Scott Holden, vice president of platform marketing, in an interview. Amazon upgrades Elastic Beanstalk for .Net applications
Amazon Web Services' Elastic Beanstalk for .Net applications now supports configuration files to simplify cloud setup and integration with Amazon's private cloud and relational database. This year has seen Amazon Web Services (AWS) increasingly focus on making its cloud easier to manage and continuing to develop Elastic Beanstalk is part of that strategy. Read More

Microsoft releases Office 2010 SP2 public beta
Microsoft on Monday released a public beta of Office 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2), the first major update to the suite in almost two years. The preview of Office 2010 SP2 can be downloaded from Microsoft's Connect website, the company said. In addition to Office 2010 SP2, the download includes the code necessary to upgrade several server products, such as SharePoint 2010 and Office Web Apps 2010. Read More

Mobile-security startup debuts with 'container' and audit tech for iPads
Mobile device security startup Averail makes its debut today with its "containerization" software and service intended to give IT managers control over mobile-device apps and their content. The product, called Averail Access, is only available as client software for the Apple iPad at present but the company plans to add support for Google Android and the Apple iPhone in the second half of the year, with additional mobile platforms possible. HP to customize Moonshot offerings, offer ARM and Xeon chips
Hewlett-Packard in the future will offer customized Moonshot servers at different prices and also offer configurations with ARM and Intel Xeon processors. HP on Monday started shipping the first offering in its new class of hyperscale servers called Moonshot, which runs on processors built for smartphones and tablets. The initial Moonshot system has a fixed configuration with 45 Proliant servers -- also called cartridges -- based on Intel's Atom S1200 x86 low-power processors, and will be priced at $61,875. Over time, customers will be able to work with HP to configure Moonshot depending on how the server will be used and that also will determine the price. Read More
