What's wrong with agile development: Culture, people top the list
When agile software development initiatives fail, it's usually because of shortcomings in staffing and culture, a report released today concludes. In its survey, tools vendor VersionOne looked at a variety of agile aspects, ranging from adoption to benefits to execution and tooling, and found that in two-thirds of the cases it was either a failure to integrate the right people or to teach a team-based culture, the report states. Other reasons include communication problems between development teams and other areas of the business and problems with the Scrum master. Read More

Salesforce.com delivers mobile customer service apps
Salesforce.com is planning to add a series of mobile applications to its Service Cloud line of customer service software, in a response to the rampant rise of mobile devices both in the consumer and business worlds. Dubbed Service Cloud Mobile, the new offerings include a "co-browsing" capability, which allows end users to share a screen with a call center agent from their mobile device. Read More

Six-strikes piracy alert system being rolled out in the U.S.
A system that aims to curb Internet users from sharing copyrighted content is being rolled out in the U.S. after a number of delays. Backed by major Internet service providers, the Copyright Alert System (CAS) will require the ISPs to warn and educate users if alerted by owners of copyrighted material, and even throttle Internet speeds after six warnings, popularly referred to as "six-strikes." Android outselling Apple iOS in America, new report says
A new report from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech says that Android devices as a group outsold the iPhone in the U.S. during the three months ending January 2013, with their share of total sales rising to nearly 50 percent. The report, based on the results of Kantar's ongoing consumer panel research, saw U.S. Android sales rise a little more than 6 percent compared to the same period one year ago, while iOS lost just less than 5 percent, finishing at about 46 percent. Twitter to offer app for Firefox OS
Twitter plans to offer an official app to run on the new Firefox OS, in a significant endorsement of the operating system. Mozilla said Sunday that 18 operators were supporting the new operating system. Alcatel One Touch, LG Electronics and ZTE are planning to roll out phones built around Firefox OS starting this summer, with devices from Huawei Technologies expected later in the year. Read More

Hacking victim Bit9 blames SQL injection flaw
Bit9 said a common Web application vulnerability was responsible for allowing hackers to ironically use the security vendor's systems as a launch pad for attacks on other organizations. In an embarrassing admission, Bit9 said that it neglected to install its own software on a part of its network, which lead to the compromise. Read More
