Java 8 on ARM: Oracle's new shot against Android?
Oracle has unveiled a developer preview release of standard Java 8 for the ARM processors that power most mobile devices, including capabilities for the JavaFX rich media platform, in what one analyst sees as a shot across the bow of Google's Android mobile platform. Google offers free Quickoffice app to Google Apps subscribers
Google has launched a free iPad app to allow its paying business customers to edit Microsoft Office documents. The new offering from Google, a free version of the Quickoffice iPad app, is the latest development in an ongoing battle for mobile users of office software. Google acquired the makers of Quickoffice in June as part of its efforts to challenge Microsoft on the emerging tablet and smartphone platform. Read More

Samsung promises fix for vulnerability in Android devices
Samsung said Wednesday it is working on an update for a software flaw that could allow attackers to siphon personal data from a phone. The vulnerability affects Samsung's S2 and S3 phones and several models of its Galaxy line, including the Note, Note II, Note Plus and Note 10.1, all of which use the Korean company's Exynos 4210 and 4412 model processors.
