F5 BIG-IP cloudbursts onto Amazon Web Services scene

Microsoft updates Visual Studio 2012 with better testing tools, Windows XP support
Microsoft's Visual Studio 2012 Update 1 (Visual Studio 2012.1) is now available for download. The update allows users to develop applications for Windows XP and more thoroughly test their work. The previous version of Microsoft's development tool was launched along with .Net 4.5 in September of this year. Read More

Infor teams up with VMWare for virtualized ERP
Infor has teamed up with VMWare to help customers of its Infor LN ERP (enterprise resource planning) software run on VMWare's latest virtualization technology, opening a door to cloud deployments and potentially lower infrastructure costs. The companies have created a reference architecture that customers and partners can use to create a virtual appliance with VMWare products such as vSphere, Cloud Director and vFabric, according to the announcement, which was made Tuesday. Boundary adds analytics features to cloud monitoring service
Boundary has added analytics features to its cloud monitoring service to give enterprises a better idea of how applications running on public clouds are performing and warn them when something starts to go wrong. Boundary is delivered as software-as-a-service and the new analytics features are being added this week, according to CEO Gary Read. Read More

NEC data center units to cut power usage by 30 percent with convection
NEC is working on a new type of small data center unit that uses convection to slash power usage by a third. The Japanese electronics giant said Tuesday it has designed a new type of portable data center that can use the temperature difference between hot air exhaled from servers and untreated air from outside to create air flow and lessen the need for dedicated coolers. Digital watchdogs warn of spam, privacy issues with Facebook changes
Two digital rights group urged Facebook on Tuesday to halt changes to its governance and data use policies, warning the modifications could increase privacy risks. Facebook said last Wednesday it would no longer allow users to vote on proposed policy changes. The social networking site also changed its Data Use Policy, allowing third parties to access user data, and modified a setting that allows users to control the types of messages they receive by email.
