Read More South Carolina reveals massive data breach of Social Security Numbers, credit cards Approximately 3.6 million Social Security numbers and 387,000 credit and debit card numbers belonging to South Carolina taxpayers were exposed after a server at the state's Department of Revenue was breached by an international hacker, state officials said Friday. All but 16,000 of the credit and debit card numbers were encrypted, the officials said. Read More IBM moving to replace silicon with carbon nanotubes in computer chips IBM has hit a milestone in its quest to come up with a successor to silicon computer chips. The company said Sunday its research into semiconductors based on carbon nanotubes, or CNTs, has yielded a new method to accurately place them on wafers in large numbers. The technology is viewed as one way to keep shrinking chip sizes once current silicon-based technology hits its limit.
