Microsoft all out of Surface RT tablets
Microsoft has run through all pre-launch supplies of its Surface RT tablet, forcing U.S. and Canadian customers who want one Friday to head to the company's permanent and special holiday "pop-up" stores. As of Saturday, the $599 32GB and $699 64GB models packaged with a Touch Cover were shipping one to two weeks after ordering. Read More

Oracle brings cross-platform Java dev to mobile devices
Oracle is augmenting its Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) to allow developers to create mobile applications for Apple and Android devices. The advantage the newly released ADF Mobile will offer is that a developer can write an application once and have it run with no modification on either the Apple iOS on Android. Read More

Microsoft kicks off free Office 2013 upgrades
Microsoft on Friday launched an Office upgrade offer that gives customers who purchase the current Office 2010 a free copy of the upcoming Office 2013. The deal, stuck with the official title of "Microsoft Office Pre-launch Offer," started Oct. 19 and ends April 30, 2013. Customers who buy a retail copy of Office 2010 for Windows or one of several stand-alone applications within that period can download a free copy of the corresponding version of Office 2013, or in some cases, choose a free one-year subscription to an Office 365 plan. HP launches cloud service for the IT help desk
Hewlett-Packard has launched a hosted offering called HP Service Anywhere, providing IT service management (ITSM) software over the Internet. "We believe that SaaS as a delivery model and as a business model makes sense for many of our customers," said Lee Nackman, who is HP's vice president and general manager for the company's service and portfolio management software. Motorola HC1: Google Goggles for the enterprise
Motorola Solutions has unveiled a head-mounted, voice-controlled computer that's targeted at the military and other industries where workers need hands-free access to information. Called the HC1, the device runs on an ARM processor and has an optional camera to send back real-time video over a wireless network. Read More
