Ultrabooks with iPhone Siri-like voice interaction to come in Q4
Voice interaction will be available in Ultrabooks starting in the fourth quarter, an Intel executive said. Ultrabooks will come with Nuance's Dragon Assistant Beta voice recognition software, which will enable direct interaction on Ultrabooks based on voice commands, said Dadi Perlmutter, vice president and general manager of Intel Architecture Group, during a keynote at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco. Intel's new Itanium chip, Poulson, to launch later this year
Intel said it is on track to launch the next-generation Itanium processor later this year, brushing away any speculation that the processor would reach its end of life in the near future. The next-generation Itanium chip for Unix and Linux servers, code-named Poulson, will succeed the current Itanium chip code-named Tukwila, which was released in 2009 after many delays. The chip is used in fault-tolerant servers that typically run high-end applications. Read More

Amazon Web Services lets users sell reserved instances
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced an online marketplace where users of its cloud computing services can sell their reserved server instances to other companies, the company said on Wednesday. Reserved instances allow avid cloud users to lower their cloud costs by making a one-time payment to reserve compute capacity for a specified term, and in turn, receive a discount on the hourly charge, Amazon said. Zuckerberg upbeat on search, denies smartphone rumors
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg gave his first interview Tuesday since the company's troubled initial public offering earlier this year. He said the performance of the stock has "obviously been disappointing" but said Facebook has big opportunities in both mobile and search. Addressing one of the main criticisms of Facebook -- that it doesn't have a good strategy to make money from mobile users -- Zuckerberg said Facebook's prospects on mobile devices are one of the most "misunderstood" things about the company. Intel hopes to double Ultrabook battery life with Haswell chip
The battery life of Ultrabooks will nearly double with Intel's upcoming processors based on the Haswell microarchitecture, which will succeed processors code-named Ivy Bridge, Intel executives said on Tuesday. The new Haswell chips will also deliver much faster graphics and applications performance when they appear in ultrabook designs starting next year, said Dadi Perlmutter, executive vice president and general manager of Intel Architecture Group, during a keynote speech at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco.
