Microsoft dismisses Google's open-source browser benchmark
In the latest battle of the ongoing browser wars, Google has released to the open-source community a browser benchmark dubbed RoboHornet that aims to test how well browsers handle Web technologies beyond JavaScript. Though the benchmark is still an alpha release, Microsoft has already dismissed it as a mere "micro-benchmark" that fails to represent Web technologies used in the "real world." Read More

Infor launches open-source strategy, embraces Red Hat stack, MySQL
Infor has certified some of its products for Red Hat's Linux and JBoss middleware and added support for the MySQL and MariaDB databases, as part of a new push into open-source software, the companies announced Wednesday. Specifically, Infor's LN ERP (enterprise resource planning) suite, along with its ION integration framework, have been certified for Red Hat's stack. LN and ION customers can also now use MySQL and MariaDB, the latter of which is a fork of the MySQL codebase. Read More

Security researcher digs up another critical zero-day Java bug
A security researcher known for finding Java bugs has uncovered a new critical zero-day vulnerability in all currently-supported versions of the popular Oracle software. The bug, which was publicly reported on the Full Disclosure security mailing list Tuesday by Adam Gowdiak, the founder and CEO of Polish security firm Security Explorations, can be leveraged to hijack a machine equipped with Java, letting attackers install malware on the system.
