Apple yesterday unveiled the iPhone 5, the nameplate everyone wanted last year before they settled, sometimes only after a lot of griping, for the iPhone 4S. The rumor milled nailed most of the feature set -- one analyst said Apple could have saved everyone time by simply noting, 'It's all you thought it was, no surprises, have a good time' -- including LTE, a 4-inch screen and a bigger battery. Microsoft prepares developers for Windows Phone 8 SDK launch
Microsoft started accepting on Wednesday requests for access to the Windows Phone SDK 8.0 Developer Preview program, the company said in a blog post. To apply, developers can go to the Microsoft Connect site, and the deadline is Sept. 17 at 5 pm PDT. Developers that are accepted will hear from Microsoft soon after the deadline has passed to get instructions on how to download the Windows Phone 8 SDK and get support. Read More

Apple's LTE move with iPhone 5 leaves Europe on the back burner
Although Apple is moving to LTE with the iPhone 5, it's focused for now on North America and advanced Asian markets, leaving Europe's most important LTE bands behind. The iPhone 5 will come in three versions, equipped to use different sets of frequencies: Two phones for the GSM family of technologies and one for CDMA, which also includes GSM bands for roaming. SDN bandwagon rolls ahead
Cisco, Brocade, Dell among others have jumped on board and look to ride the wave that is software-defined networking.
