Dropbox fiasco serves as reminder of cloud-storage insecurity
From Dropbox and Google Drive to MediaFire and RapidShare, there's an abundance of services providing space in the cloud for people to park their files. These file-sharing services are super convenient for users who want to easily store large files or share them with colleagues. But as the recent spam attacks against Dropbox users demonstrate, cloud-based file-sharing services represent a potential security challenge for cloud-wary IT admins -- who are already dealing with the security challenges brought on by the BYOD movement. Huawei checking claims of vulnerabilities in its routers
Huawei Technologies said on Thursday it was verifying claims that its routers contained critical vulnerabilities, after security researchers disclosed alleged problems last weekend. Read More

Chrome up -- and down -- in browser share battle
Google's Chrome browser lost usage share for the fifth time in the last seven months, while Mozilla's Firefox gained share for the second consecutive month, a Web measurement company said Wednesday. Net Applications, which calculates browser usage by tracking unique visitors to approximately 40,000 websites, pegged Chrome's share for July at 18.9 percent, a two-tenths of a percentage point decline from June. But Net Applications' numbers were again disputed by rival StatCounter, which tallies browser share differently, counting page views, not unique visitors, for about 3 million websites. And unlike Net Applications, StatCounter does not weight the results by each country's pool of online users. Read More

Apple asks court to sanction Samsung by ordering in its favor
Apple has requested a court in California to sanction Samsung Electronics in a patent infringement dispute by granting judgment in favor of Apple, after the South Korean company released to the press documents including exhibits that were not allowed as evidence in the suit. Read More
