Oracle on Thursday issued an emergency update to patch the critical vulnerabilities hackers have been using in increasing numbers to hijack Windows PCs. According to Rapid7, the security firm that maintains the Metasploit open-source penetration framework, the so-called "out-of-band" update will stymie the current attack campaigns. Read More

Oracle database customers running version 11g Release 1 have until the end of this month to upgrade, or else face increased annual maintenance fees.The vendor provides five years of Premier Support after a new product becomes generally available, as 11gR2 did in August 2007. Apple's Mountain Lion now runs on 1 in 10 Macs
Apple's OS X Mountain Lion now powers more than 10 percent of all Macs, and may be on the way to outdoing its predecessor, Lion, in adoption speed, an online advertising network said today. Chitika, which mines its ad impression data for trends in operating system and browser usage, said Thursday that as of Aug. 27, Mountain Lion accounted for 10.3 percent of all versions of Apple's operating system, with an almost-equal amount of its gain coming from the last two editions. Tokyo court: Samsung didn't violate Apple patent in Japan
A Tokyo court ruled Friday that Samsung did not infringe an Apple patent in a locally filed lawsuit, a minor victory for Samsung in the ongoing legal battles between the two companies.The ruling by Tokyo District Judge Tamotsu Shoji concerned a single patent related to synching smartphones and tablets with media devices. Apple is still pursuing other lawsuits in the country, where legal monetary awards are typically much lower than in the U.S. Read More
