Startup Piston Cloud says it's built a better OpenStack installer
There's been much buzz surrounding OpenStack as cloud players including Rackspace and Red Hat rolled out free versions of their tailored distributions of the open-source framework in the span of a week. Now startup Piston Cloud Computing has thrown its hat into the ring, offering Airframe, a trial version of its OpenStack-based Piston Cloud. Engine Yard adds Node.js to hosted Web app dev tools roster
Paving the way for more server-side use of JavaScript, PaaS (platform-as-a-service) provider Engine Yard has added the Node.js library to its collection of hosted Web application tools. The service, which Engine Yard first offered as a preview last November, will join Engine Yard's two other Web application-friendly offerings, Ruby on Rails, and PHP. Read More

Adobe releases six critical patches for Flash, AIR
Adobe Systems released fixes on Tuesday for six critical vulnerabilities affecting its Flash multimedia application and AIR runtime, five of which could allow for remote code execution on a system. The updates affect Windows, Macintosh, Linux, Google Chrome, and users of Android 2.x, 3.x and 4.x devices, Adobe said in its advisory. Read More

Mozilla sets end of Firefox for OS X Leopard
Mozilla will drop support for Apple's OS X 10.5, or Leopard, after it ships Firefox 16 in October, according to company developers. OS X 10.6 is Snow Leopard, the 2009 follow-up to Leopard, which shipped in October 2007. By Mozilla's release calendar, Firefox 16 is to debut Oct. 9. Firefox 17, the first that will not to pushed to Leopard users, is slated for a Nov. 20 launch. Read More
