Oracle gives Java 6 support another extension
Looking to give developers even more time to migrate to Java 7, Oracle has extended support for Oracle JDK (Java Development Kit) 6 again. Instead of ending support for the JDK, which is Oracle's implementation of Java Platform Standard Edition 6, in November, updates will be released through February 2013. Previously, Oracle had planned to bring the product to an "end of life" stage last month but in February decided to extend it to November. Read More

Salesforce.com to debut Work.com at Dreamforce
Salesforce.com is planning to up its stake in human resources software with the unveiling of a new service called Work.com next month during the Dreamforce event in San Francisco. The news first emerged in a Bloomberg profile of the company published on Thursday. A Salesforce.com spokeswoman confirmed the story's accuracy but declined to provide additional details. Read More

Fewer outsourcing contracts being inked, says research firm
The number of new IT and business process outsourcing contracts worldwide dropped by 20 percent to 411 in the second quarter from 516 in the same quarter a year ago, with average contract values also sliding, a research firm said. "The market is growing, but the pace of growth is slowing down," said Salil Dani, practice director for global sourcing at Everest Group, on Friday. Buyers in the U.S., particularly from the public sector, are shying away from outsourcing because of the anti-offshoring debate in the run-up to the presidential elections, according to Dani. Samsung details speedy next-gen Exynos processor for smartphones and tablets
Samsung has shared more details about its next-generation Exynos 5 Dual dual-core mobile processor, which will be two times faster than comparable Exynos chips currently used in the company's smartphones and tablets.
