10 for 2012: Gartner's top emerging infrastructure trends
Gartner kicked off its Infrastructure & Operations Management Summit last week with a top 10 list of the most significant emerging trends that will impact data centers and information technology used by businesses and government from now into the next four or five years. The list was presented by Gartner Chief of Research Dave Cappuccio in a keynote address, in which he explained there's often a cascading effect as one trend such as employee mobile devices and cloud use affects others such as help desk operations. Apple's MacBook Air price cuts make it tougher on Windows Ultrabooks
Apple did something very unusual Monday: It cut prices. As part of its long-awaited notebook refresh, Apple dropped the price of three of the four models in its signature MacBook Air line by $100, representing cuts of between 6 percent and 8 percent. Read More

ITC rejects Google patents in HTC's legal dispute aganist Apple
The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has tossed out five Google patents assigned to High Tech Computer in support of its legal complaint against Apple, dealing a blow to the Taiwanese smartphone maker's court dispute to stop the import of the iPhone, iPad, and other Apple products into the country for alleged patent infringement. The ITC rejected an investigation of the five former Google patents, said HTC spokeswoman Jessica Pan on Tuesday. Read More

Linaro boasts up to 100% speed boost for Android
Developers at open-source nonprofit organization Linaro have posted a set of code tweaks for Android, enabling up to 100 percent increases in performance, compared to a vanilla version of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). Read More
